Lindale softball player part of national championship team


The 12 and Under American Freedom-Pride softball team, featuring a player from Lindale, recently captured the USSSA National Championship tournament held at Lear Park in Longview, publicity officials said.

Makayla Alana of Lindale is a member of the American Freedom-Pride squad.

Other East Texas players on the team include MaKayla Jackson of Naples, Jayden Cox and Alyssa Stansbury of Winnsboro, Lauren Simmons of Mineola, Jacee Short and Grace Pippin of Hughes Springs, Presley Applegate of Pittsburg, Katie Hart of Omaha, Hannah Rhea of Mount Pleasant and Trinity Hawkins of Chandler.

Coaches include Bret Hart, Brian Applegate, Cody Rhea, and David Pippin.

In its first game in pool play on Thursday, July 27 American Freedom-Pride defeated Texas Glory Adkins-Vargas, 7-3 and on Thursday night, AF Pride downed USSSA Pride, 5-0.

In Friday’s pool play, AF-Pride downed USSSA Pride-Sheeley, 12-0.

AF-Pride’s first bracket game on Friday night was against Frozen Rope Stars with the East Texans claiming a 4-0 victory.

On Saturday, AF-Pride defeated the Tulsa Eagles, 5-2 but later on, ITB pinned a 9-3 loss on AF-Pride forcing the East Texans to make their way through the loser’s bracket.

Having to play five straight games on Sunday, AF-Pride won their way to the championship game against unbeaten USSSA Pride Sheeley Red from Cedar Hill, Texas.

An 11-4 win in the first game forced a second contest, which AF-Pride claimed a 6-3 win for the championship.
