Lady Eagles continue non-district slate


Continuing their busy non-district schedule, the Lindale Lady Eagles varsity volleyball team knocked off Lufkin this past weekend, while the freshman and junior varsity teams were competing in the Winona tournament.

The freshman team claimed a second place finish in the tournament while the JV was a third place finisher.

For the varsity on Friday night, the Lady Eagles won 25-18, 25-23 and 25-7.

Lindale was led at the net by Hannah Knox (7 kills, 2 blocks, 6 digs), Brina Kuslak (6 kills, 2 blocks), and London Reue (7 kills). Setters Harleigh Thurman and Kalaya Pierce did their part assisting the front row. Thurman had 14 assists, 11 digs, and 4 aces, while Pierce contributed 8 assists and 4 digs to the combined effort.

Libero Alisha Kiser had 19 digs, 3 assists, and 1 ace in the night’s victory.

The Lady Eagles were scheduled to take on Tyler Lee at home on Tuesday night with matches starting at 5 p.m.

Last week, Lindale was busy both at home and on the road with dual matches and tournaments.

Aug. 24-26 saw LHS in Leander for the Volleypalooza tournament and on Tuesday, Aug. 29, Lindale hosted Carthage and Quitman in a dual match in the high school gym.


The freshman team went 1-1 on the night, losing to Carthage but defeating Quitman, while scores against Carthage were 17-25 and 20-25, and scores against Quitman were 25-23 and 25-14.

The junior varsity team went 2-0 on the night defeating both teams, with the JV winning over Carthage 25-23 and 25-14 and against Quitman, 25-19 and 25-17.

On the varsity level, Lindale defeated Carthage in a five-set battle and losing to Quitman in three sets.

Scores against Carthage were: 25-10, 24-26, 25-18, 24-26, and 15-11. Leading the play at the net for the Lady Eagles were Hannah Knox (14 kills, 1 block), Brina Kuslak (13 kills) and Lorin Reue (9 kills). Libero Alisha Kiser had 50 digs in the five set match.

Setters Harleigh Thurman and Kalaya Pierce put up big numbers as well on the night. Thurman had 29 assists and 10 digs, and Pierce had 17 assists and 9 digs.

Lindale then took on Quitman in a tight, competitive match with the Lady Bulldogs coming out on top.

Scores were 23-25, 28-30, and 24-26. Leading the play at the net was Brina Kuslak (12 kills, 3 blocks), Hannah Knox (7 kills, 2 blocks), and Shelbi Steen (6 kills). Alisha Kiser kept play going with 31 digs on the match,a nd Jennifer Moyer assisted her by adding 12 digs. Harleigh Thurman had 20 assists, and Kalaya Pierce added 12 more on the night.


Lindale High School’s Lady Eagles volleyball team traveled to Leander Aug. 24-26 and took part in the Volleypalooza Tournament, which featured some of the best high school volleyball teams in the state.

On Thursday, Aug. 24, Lindale faced two rugged Class 6A teams – Westwood and San Antonio Reagan and finished third in pool play.

Friday, Aug. 25, the Lady Eagles again faced tough competition against Belton and Hyde Park High Schools and despite playing those two schools tough weren’t able to come away with wins.

Several Lindale players contributed to their team’s play during the tournament. They included:

- Middle blocker Brina Kuslak: 36 kills, 5 blocks

- Hitter Hannah Knox: 25 kills, 1 block, 25 digs

- Setter Harleigh Thurman: 57 assists, 23 digs

- Setter Kalaya Pierce: 34 assists, 29 digs

- Libero Alisha Kiser: 3 aces, 4 assists, and 89 digs
