The monthly meeting of the East Texas Genealogical Society is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, May 12 at the Tyler Public Library’s Taylor Auditorium, ETGS officials announced.
The meeting is free and open to the public.
William D. “Bill” Buckner will speak about the “1890 Census Substitutes: Bridging the Gap.’’
A fire destroyed the 1890 Census by fire, which left a 20-year gap in the decennial chain of census records for researchers. Buckner will discuss different strategies and alternative sources to recapture the Census gap from 1880 to 1900.
Buckner is the Genealogy Supervisor of the Genealogy Center of Waco-McLennan County Library for the past 19 years.
He is the District “H’’ Representative for the Texas State Genealogical Society and received the President’s Award from the TxSGS for his contributions.
