Continuing their successful run through District 17-5A, the Lindale High School Eagles dumped the Ennis Lions, 6-2 and 3-0 this past Tuesday and Friday.
The first contest against Ennis came at the Lindale ISD Baseball and Softball Complex while the second was on the road in Ennis.
The Eagles improved to 15-4-1 on the season and are atop the district standings with a 4-0 mark. Ennis is now 1-3 in league play.
Two pitchers, Sebastian Coulter and Jacob Philpot, scattered four hits to the Lions in the first game. Ennis’ lone district win to this point was a 5-4 victory over Whitehouse on March 29.
In the first game, Coulter worked the first six innings of the win and allowed two unearned runs, both coming in the first inning. He fans two and walked just one, while Philpot finished things off in the seventh inning.
Lindale’s offense erupted for its six runs in the fifth inning to lay claim to the win.
A two-RBI double from third baseman Jamey Richey kick started the rally, with Brad Burckel plating two more in a single. Chase Rozell and Matt Aubuchon also had run-scoring hits while Cody Pike came through with another single.
In the second Ennis game, Collin Cooper went five innings, allowed four hits and fanned five on the mound. Theron Brown then stepped in for the final two innings without allowing a hit and striking out one Ennis batter to earn the save.
Offensively, Jamey Richey led the hit parade with two hits and an RBI. Brandon Burckel and Cody Pike each chipped in with hits.
