Looking to defend their co-district championship, the Lindale High School baseball Eagles begin a new season Friday (Feb. 9) at 6:30 p.m. in Athens against the Hornets.
Rich Sanguinetti returns for his third season as head coach for the Eagles and will be assisted by Terry Baker, Justin Mason and Brent Ricks.
According to TexasHighSchoolBaseball.com, Lindale is the favorite to win District 17-5A after sharing the league championship with Whitehouse a year ago with both schools finishing 8-2 in league play.
The Eagles advanced to the bi-district round of the playoffs where they fell to Temple, 8-4. Lindale completed the season with an 20-6-2 mark.
Lindale returns seven starters from last year’s club, including senior standouts Brad Burckel, Jamey Richey and Kollin McCartney, who have all signed with Division I college programs.
Burckel has signed with the University of Houston, McCartney with Sam Houston State University and Richey with Texas State University.
Following the season opener in Athens, the Eagles return home on Monday, Feb. 12 to take on Bullard at 5 p.m.
