Funeral Services for Mr. Bobby Dwayne Kennedy, 71, Lindale, were held Saturday, Dec. 22 in the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Marion Burgess officiating.

Interment was in the Bethesda Cemetery. Mr. Kennedy went to be with the Lord Our Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 19. He was born on April 3, 1941 to William Alexander and Lora Graham Kennedy.

During his more than 30 years as a police officer, he was awarded the Police Officer of the Year Award in Mineola and became Chief of Police of Bells, Texas, in 1976.

He also served on the Special Response Team in Dallas, spent 8 years with the Drug Enforcement Agency, and was instrumental in raising money for an emergency unit and ambulance for Bells.

He was involved in the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Eastern Star organizations. He also loved fishing and hunting and he never seemed to meet a stranger, or run out of police stories to tell.

Survivors include his wife Wilma Lois Kennedy of Lindale; son and daughter-in-law Robbie and Diane Kennedy of Whitehouse; grandchildren, Dakota and Rachel and one great grandson; three stepsons and daughters-in-law, Leland and Laura Kennedy, Lynn and Ramona Kennedy and Glen and Beniece Kennedy, all of Lindale; two brothers and sistersin law, Chester and Linda Kennedy of New Summerfield and Billy and Shelbie Kennedy of Liberty City; sister and brother in-law, Lanell and Tom Lindley of Hideaway.

Pallbearers wereRobbie Kennedy, Keith Hammonds, Mike Renfro, Leland Kennedy, Lynn Kennedy and Glen Kennedy.

Honorary Pallbearers were grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Swan Wood Springs Methodist Church -- where his family and he are members -- would be appreciated.
