LISD Education Foundation to fund grants for top teachers
Officials with the Lindale ISD Education Foundation have announced the funding of grants for the district’s teacher of the year award recipients beginning with the start of the 2013- 14 school year.
Each of the $500 grants will be given to LISD’s annual recipients of the elementary and secondary teacher of the year awards. The grants are to be applied to professional development for the teachers or to support their classroom needs.
The award recipients are selected by district administrators. The LISD teachers of the year are also nominees for the regional awards. Regional winners advance to the statewide competition.
“The Foundation’s goal is to support academic excellence,” Executive Director Maya Bethany said. “The teachers of the year exemplify the skills that support academic excellence. They inspire and motivate their students, provide a challenging and innovative curriculum, and they are well respected by peers and administrators.
The Foundation directors applaud these teachers and want to make sure they have the tools they need to support their exemplary teaching methods.”
The grants will be awarded during the district’s annual back to school kickoff luncheon for staff.
“I know I speak on behalf of all our teachers when I say that each teacher will be so honored to receive a teacher of the year grant sponsored by the LISD Education Foundation,” said LISD Superintendent Stan Surratt. “We are so fortunate to have such great support from this wonderful organization. The foundation is making a difference not only for our students but for our teachers and staff members.”
