JAMES “JAY” DAVIS
Services for Mr. James A. “Jay” Davis, age 78, of Swan and relative of Lindale residents, were held Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 in the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel in Lindale with Rev. Dennis Black and Rev. Ottis Jarrell officiating. Interment was in Bethesda Cemetery.
Mr. Davis died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 in a Tyler hospital. He was born Oct. 19, 1935 in Paducah, Texas to Tony Afton and Margaret Ethel Taylor Davis and was formerly of California before moving to Swan in 1974.
Mr. Davis was retired from the U.S. Navy serving in Viet Nam. He was also retired from Trane Manufacturing in Tyler and was a member of the Friendly Baptist Church in Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Margaret Davis, his wife, Joyce Davis, and brothers Richard Wayland Davis and Sonny Davis.
He is survived by long time friend Barbara Lott of Lindale; two sons, Richard W. Davis of Bend, Ore. and James Michael Davis of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Rita LaFleur and husband, Lloyd of Hallsville and Debbie Williams and husband, Bill of Tyler; four stepsons, Ronald D. Bishop of Truckee, Calif.; Richard D. Bishop of Pleasanton, Calif.; Mark H. Rooney and wife, Regina of Lindale and Michael P. Rooney and wife, Tammy of Tyler and numerous grandchildren including, Ellie Davis, Holly Davis, Cameron Rooney, and Shannon Rooney.
Pallbearers were his nephews.
